When everything seemed to indicate that it would be the Fiesta again, it will not be. Its world debut will be at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 features a next-generation hybrid powertrain, combined with the performance of a turbocharged 1.6-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine with a sophisticated 100 kW electric motor and a 3.9 kWh battery.

The Ford company is focused on electrification. It announced earlier this year that 100 per cent of its passenger vehicle range in Europe will be fully electric or plug-in hybrid with zero capacity by mid-2026, to go fully electric in 2030.

The new unit will debut July 8-10 on the famous Goodwood climb. Adrien Fourmaux and M-Sport test driver Matthew Wilson will make it race before 2022 season. “The M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1 will put hybrid power to the test and demonstrate that the technology is capable of delivering performance. exciting”, they speak from the brand.

The English is one of three brands that has shown its three-year commitment to the World Rally Championship since the official announcement of the hybrid era. Toyota Gazoo Racing and Hyundai Motorsport have also started work on their models, which will be revealed in the coming months.

Malcolm Wilson: “The new era of WRC cars is one of the biggest technological advances in WRC to date. The introduction of the hybrid means that the cars will be more powerful than ever. The change to the Puma is very exciting, as the name He already has rally heritage, the car looks fantastic and I can’t wait to see him on the starting line of the famous Monte Carlo Rally in early 2022“.

“Launching this new car at Goodwood is also very special, as it is one of the most iconic events on the Motorsport calendar. All M-Sport looks forward to continuing the successful partnership with Ford to deliver results and keep the brand at the forefront during this time. An exciting new era”, adds Wilson.

Ford has been a continuous partner of M-Sport since 1997, securing seven World Rally Championships and more than 1,500 stage victories. The new Puma Rally1 will replace the Ford Fiesta WRC, which has achieved three absolute titles since its introduction in 2017.
