In the year of its return, the Safari Rally Kenya will name the sixth round of the World Rally Championship. The exotic rallie, to be held on June 24, 25, 26 and 27, already has several casualties on the official registered list announced days ago.

Most come from the WRC2 category, which had four entries. TokSport WRT, a team based in Germany, confirmed that it will not be attending with its Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo. Andreas Mikkelsen and Marco Bulacia were listed, but the damage caused by Rally Italia to their cars has complicated the team’s logistics.

Teemu Suninen will be another casualty. The Finnish driver was listed with the Ford Fiesta Rally2, but it will not be possible either. In the words of Malcolm Wilson for DirtFish: “We need a minimum of five people to drive your car and we can’t afford to have those people quarantined when we get back”.

Wilson highlighted the complications of the current moment: “Honestly, this is one of the most difficult moments I have known in over forty years in the business. We have tried to change something, but I am afraid there is nothing we can do to get Teemu out”.

If nothing changes, Martin Prokop is the only one entered in this category, aboard his Ford Fiesta Rally2. The Czech competitor, if finished, would achieve his first win of the year in the category. Together with Viktor Chytka and Zdeněk Jůrka, his co-drivers, he has added a seventh, sixth and fourth result in WRC2.

In the WRC category there are also news. Oliver Solberg and Aaron Johnston entered the entry list for the Safari Rally Kenya at the last minute. They will replace Frenchman Pierre Louis Loubet, who has decided to take a short break and return for Rally Estonia.
