Automotor Rally Team, with the technical management of the MZR team, will take over the new Hyundai i20 N Rally2 with which Fabrizio Zaldivar and Carlos del Barrio will compete from mid-August. Hyundai Paraguay has therefore been made with the first unit of this model in South America.
The Paraguayan National Championship will enjoy the first unit of the continent. “Fau” and the Cantabrian co-driver will be in charge of making it roll in the championship. Undoubtedly, good news for rallies in that country since the middle of the season.
The Hyundai i20 N Rally2 continues its testing program under the guidance of Ott Tänak and Craig Breen. It will be a real revolution for the Korean structure. Only the five-speed sequential gearbox will prevail from its predecessor model – the successful i20 NG R5.
Both the 1.6-liter turbo engine, as well as the development of differentials, brakes and aerodynamic kit are completely new, being the perfect conclusion of five years of work, since the first i20 R5 saw the light.
Predictable, consistent, with great cornering speed and excellent work on the chassis geometry, have been the opinions of the different drivers who continue to test on tarmac, gravel and snow, ahead of their debut in the middle of this year.
Fau Zaldivar -who along with Carlos Del Barrio- is now doing several kilometers in Paraguay, thinking about the start of the season, stated the following: “This has been one of the best news of the year. The i20 NG is the most I’m comfortable driving and I can’t wait to get into the new Rally2. Once again I want to thank Hyundai Automotor for the confidence and the great support they have been giving to our motorsport”.
As far as the World Rally Championship is concerned, the team will compete all season in the FIA WRC3 Championship aboard a Toksport WRT Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo. They will officially kick off their 2021 at the Arctic Rally Finland. His teammates will be Andreas Mikkelsen and Marquito Bulacia.
