Mads Ostberg starred in one of the most viewed images of the last Rally Italia-Sardinia. The Norwegian driver arrived very angry at the finish line of TC-18 after suffering a puncture in the front left wheel of the Citroën C3 Rally2. This fact threw away most of the chances of victory in WRC2.
These were the words of the driver after being asked by the interviewer when stopping at the control stop: ‘I`m fucked… upset. All the things that are happening to us all the time… They are shit wheels… I haven’t touched anything at all, I have punctured on a straight”.
This was the Norwegian rally
Ostberg and Torstein led the WRC2 until TC-12, 25 seconds behind Jari Huttunen and Mikko Lukka (Hyundai). However, a problem with a wheel caused the delay to the arrival of the time control of the next special, with the corresponding 1 minute penalty in the classification.
This fact sent them back to second place in WRC2, but already more than 17 seconds away with two stages to go. It seemed impossible, but they put out a stratospheric time on TC-19, cutting a whopping 15 seconds. In the latter, Huttunen and Lukka set a great time, defending the lead and winning the rally.
Ostberg apologizes on social media
I know it should not have happened and it is something caused by the tension of the moment. I am sure that it will not happen again in the future and at the same time I want to thank everyone for the great support I have received during the last hours. Thank you very much and we’ll see again soon”.
This is the WRC2 World Championship after Sardinia
The championship is one of the most exciting in recent years, both in terms of quantity and quality of the drivers present. Andreas Mikkelsen adds an abandonment that equals everything. Ostberg and Bulacia, very regular so far, are very close. The rest of the participants (Fourmaux, Lappi, Suninen, Solberg …) run in WRC2 partially.
