As we already published a few days ago, the Italian roads are witnessing the first kilometers of the Hyundai i20 N Rally2 on the gravel. Specifically, the relay of the current i20 R5 already has more than 500 test kilometers, with several drivers on board.

In the first tests, as confirmed by the Korean brand, the engineers and drivers have focused on aspects of handling and chassis. Recall that the expected homologation date is July 2021. Hyundai is facing a few key weeks of testing, with the aim of analyzing data in the first months of the year.

The reigning World Rally Champion, Ott Tänak, has already gotten his first sensations about this car, as has Jari Huttunen from Finland. However, over the next few months, more riders linked to the brand such as Sordo, Neuville, Gryazin or Munster, among others, are expected to climb.

Andrew Johns, Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Operations Lead, confirmed to DirtFish: “These days the work has been focused on the chassis and drivability. During the development phase we will race on all surfaces and We will broaden our approach to ensure that each area of the chassis is optimized for different setups and riding styles”.

In addition, he adds: “The tests in Italy have also set the tone for the development phase. Tänak and Huttunen helped us with their comments and driving. The rest of the drivers who will join the tests in the coming months will assure our engineers that the i20 Rally2 displays a solid and strong package”.
