Formula 1 is studying the impact of coronavirus restrictions around the world. The Canadian Grand Prix has already been replaced by Turkey, and now it is this race that is in the air. We analyze the competition options in the months of June and July.
The idea of Formula 1 is to advance the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard, a fixed date in the event. This move would guarantee the holding of two races in a row in Austria to replace Turkey. Let’s remember that it is a formula that was already used during the past season.
This is how things would remain after the Monaco Grand Prix (May 20-23). Azerbaijan will celebrate its weekend in Baku during the first weekend of June, so that date seems fixed. From here the changes would come. France would go ahead a week, to race on June 20 at Paul Ricard.
After that, with the gap left by Turkey, the teams would visit the Red Bull Ring in Austria to hold two events in a row. It will certainly be big news for the energy drink team, with their star driver Max Verstappen racing at his home.
This is how the calendar could look at the beginning of summer:
- June 6 Azerbaijan GP
- June 20 French GP (one week ahead of schedule)
- June 27 Austrian or Styrian GP (first race at Red Bull Ring)
- July 4 Austrian or Styrian GP (second race at Red Bull Ring)
- July 18 Great Britain GP
Doubts come from Sochi
Silverstone, Hungary, Holland and Italy have, if nothing changes, their guaranteed career this season. The doubts begin from the Grand Prix of Russia (September 24-26), which can also be held without problem. Trips to Singapore, Japan, Brazil or Mexico are of more concern to the championship organizers.
The problem is mainly related to six grand prix, which run from the first Sunday in October to the end of December (the aforementioned Singapore, Japan, the United States, Mexico and Brazil). Mugello and the Nürburgring, China or even Bahrain (the latter in case of not traveling to Australia) start as favorites in this dance of aspirants.
At the moment, this is how things are:
