Volkswagen Motorsport announced its closure at the end of last year, ending its presence in various world championships. The German brand warned that it will place a clear emphasis on fully electric racing cars, its goal today.
In addition to the Polo WRCs (ending in 2017), the brand took the step to enter the R5 category, one of the most successful in the recent rallying world. The Volkswagen Polo R5 was the target of numerous teams in recent years. Now, what about the spare parts?
Wevers Sport, a team based in the Netherlands, will now take care of official spare parts for units sold worldwide. The team specializes in the preparation, maintenance, rebuilding and leasing of R5 and World Rally Cars, as well as suppliers of other brands such as Toyota, Skoda or Ford.
This is the statement on social media: “We are very pleased to announce that we are the official Volkswagen Motorsport spare parts supplier for the Polo GTI R5. We are committed to the long term and will continue to provide all Polo GTI R5 spare parts”.
In addition to spare parts, they will also provide technical customer support, rebuilding parts such as engine, gearbox and shock absorbers. They will begin receiving orders from June 28, 2021.
