As we indicated in our preview of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, this race always leaves us surprises. This time it was no less, with the victory of Checo Pérez ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Pierre Gasly, a bit unprecedented in this sport. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton ended up offside.
In the last few laps of heart attack, Verstappen suffered the blowout of a wheel, saying goodbye to his options. Race direction decided to stop the race, so that the drivers came out in order from the grid with only two laps to go.
Fernando Alonso started tenth, but watch the masterful start and lap he made aboard his Alpine. The Spaniard jumped from tenth to sixth in a matter of seconds. This indicated to his team before starting: “We are going to go all out. If I see any gap I will get in. If we lose the wing or go against the wall, bad luck, but we will try.”
