During the last decades, Formula 1 has awarded prizes to the first three classified in the race and to the best at the end of the season, as well as in the brands section. In recent years variations have been incorporated, such as the gift of an extra point to the driver who sets the fastest lap in the race.
Today we have learned of a new award that will be introduced this season. Crypto.com, one of the championship sponsors, will award a final prize to the driver who completes the most overtaking during the 2021 season.
As the official statement issued by the championship indicates, the Crypto.com Overtake Award has as its main premise “to celebrate the bravery of drivers who make bold moves in search of success”. A relevant and interesting fact, not valued in the category so far.
At the moment we already know the driver who has made the most overtaking so far this year, and he is Sebastian Vettel, Aston Martin Racing driver. The German has completed great races like the one in Baku, in which he finished second after qualifying eleventh.
The thing doen`t end here, since Formula 1 will use new television graphics during the broadcasts of the race to highlight the possible advances and show which drivers have made the most overtaking during the races.
